All a far cry from its humble beginnings on a shoestring budget in founder Chris Chaplow’s home back in 1996 when the internet was a mere gleam in the eyes of a few techies, Yahoo! could only return 30 pages on Spain, and the category Andalucia didn’t even exist. With relentless determination to create an online guide to Andalucia and access to the images from his partner’s photographic archive, Andalucia.com was born. Now with more than 6,000 pages of information and a staggering half a million visitors each month, Andalucia.com has proven itself to be an indispensable guide, not only for tourists but foreign residents alike, and has inspired thousands of people to visit Andalucia. It’s no exaggeration to say that the site has changed people’s lives, with small rural hotels in remote Andalucian villages able to advertise worldwide and, says Chris, “It’s been responsible for a number of relocations south and at least one wedding that we know of!” Chris is very grateful to everyone who has supported them and is looking forward to the next 10 years with a number of exciting projects underway, starting with the relaunch of the Spanish version of the website in a joint venture with Fuerte Hoteles.
